Rural poverty approaches, policies and strategies in Pakistan


The Government of Pakistan’s development framework is outlined in the Medium-Term Development Framework 2005–2010, part of its Vision 2030 programme. The document calls for sustained long-term growth. The national Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper – II
focuses on the country’s strategic aims of ensuring broad-based growth and effective reduction of poverty.

National rural development objectives are to:

  • improve the quality of life of rural people by strengthening the rural economy and enhancing living conditions in villages through increased agricultural productivity and increased supply of water resources
  • improve rural infrastructure
  • improve access to social services in rural areas
  • implement productive projects to meet the needs of local communities
