In 2000, when Eddie Bezuidenhout, a school inspector for the Oshana Education Region in northern Namibia, was assigned by his Regional Education Office to participate in the USAID-funded Basic Education Support (BES) project, he was very skeptical about the benefits for the schools in his circuit. At the time he said: "These projects come in with big ideas that we can't sustain when they close."

Namibia to lead the way on illegal fishing

DFID is to fund an African initiative to generate political action against illegal fishing at regional and sub-regional level in sub-Saharan Africa. The work will be led by Namibia, a partner state in the Ministerial High Seas Task Force set up to tackle the problem.

Namibia launches pilot project for birth registration

WINDHOEK, Namibia, 31 October 2008 – Declaring that every child has a right to a name and a nationality, the Government of Namibia – in collaboration with UNICEF – has launched a pilot programme to ensure that all children born in hospital are registered at birth and receive birth certificates.
