IFAD in Bhutan Since 1981 IFAD has approved a total of US$42.4 million for investments in six programmes and projects in Bhutan. One programme is ongoing. IFAD has concentrated its operations in the eastern part of the country, which has a relatively dense population. It is also the area where food insecurity is highest. The programmes and projects are part of IFAD’s long-term effort to support the government in empowering poor rural people to achieve greater food security and higher incomes, while ensuring environmental sustainability.
