IFAD in Grenada

In 1982 IFAD financed the first of two projects in Grenada, approving a loan of US$1.5 million to the government for its Artisanal Fisheries Development Project. IFAD supports a second project in Grenada , the Rural Enterprise Project, with a loan of US$4.2 million.

IFAD’s strategy in Grenada

IFAD’s strategy in the country builds on the government’s poverty reduction strategy by supporting efforts to adopt a more community-oriented rural development strategy that involves non-governmental organizations (NGOs). In addition, IFAD-funded projects in Grenada focus on gender concerns and on involving sectors other than agriculture, in an effort to help develop off-farm income-earning activities and to promote links between rural development and tourism. To promote the sustainable use of natural resources, IFAD is also exploring possible development of an organic produce sector.
